Cute forest animals with a funny name of chipmunks are actually very brave and extremely clever animals. The name of the animal was borrowed by Russian people from the Tatar language, where this funny animal is called "boryndik". They are easily domesticated and are among the cleanest animals, but it is worth remembering that they love to hide small objects in their mink, so your keys will never be safe.
Let's see how chipmunks live in vivo. Currently, there are 25 species of chipmunks, but they are so similar to each other that only a specialist can distinguish them. The main population is located on the territory of North America, in Russia there is only one species. All of them are very small and the weight of the largest representative hardly reaches 1200 grams.
But despite their tiny size they furiously protect their minks from looting by bears. After all, the main food of chipmunks are nuts and berries, for the summer the animal makes a solid supply of minks, up to three kilograms of nuts. And bears knowing about it do not mind to eat the fruits of rodent labor. So the little ones have to go to all sorts of tricks.
They dig minks up to a depth of three meters, with many branches and rooms for storing nuts, and the main mink, where they live. The entrance to the hole is always skillfully disguised.
If the animal is attacked by a predatory animal, the chipmunk will never give away where his house is. He will hide in trees or in an impassable storm, but will not run to his native mink. They are usually two or three for a spare rodent in case the main nest is destroyed. They live alone, meeting with other chipmunks only during the marriage period.
Due to the fact that they live in conditions with harsh climate, the animals hibernate, but in the process of wintering they wake up to reinforce their forces. They are very sensitive to cold weather and in cold spring the chipmunk can fall asleep again before the heat comes.
