Many inexperienced horse-breeders and people with no knowledge of horse-breeding often confuse this breed of animals with Donchaks, the Don horses. This is really quite easy to do, because these two horse varieties look very similar, because it is the Don horses, which were very popular at the time, became the basis for breeding Budyonovtsy. It would seem that there are beautiful combat horses of the Don breed. Why bring out new horses?

It is worth admitting that, apart from undoubted advantages (remarkable endurance and easy-going character), the Donetsk horses had one essential drawback - they were not very sharp, and the cavalry needed more high-speed horses.

The use of the horses of the Don breed during the breeding of the new one allowed to keep the endurance and strength in the animals and the rush of blood of purebred riding horses added to their sharpness and temperament.

As of today, the Budyonnovsk horse has firmly established itself among the breeds of sports horse breeding. These beautiful horses in the color of golden wheat boast successful performances in such equestrian and sports disciplines as horse racing and jumping. They have Olympic medals in their piggy bank, as well as titles of champions of other prestigious competitions. The hard work and hard work of domestic breeders has yielded its results. Thanks to its participation in real combat operations, Budyonnovsk horse has acquired high physical characteristics, which are now proud of the Russian horse breeding.

The beginning of the twentieth century was very turbulent in our country. Cavalry actively participated in the battles of the First World War, and then the Civil War, and it required not only strong and enduring but also very sharp horses.

The basis for the pedigree work was the Don stud farms. It is worth saying that the beginning of this work was associated with certain difficulties. Two consecutive heavy and bloody wars (World War I and Civil War I) significantly reduced the number of Russian horses.

The number of combat horses is extremely small, and the number of qualified horse-breeders is even smaller

Throughout the country, pedigree stallions and mare were literally collected by the piece, whose pedigree was confirmed by a special brand and relevant documents. Soon the commander of the Russian First Cavalry Army, Marshal Semyon Budyonny, joined this campaign.

Initially, the goal was not so much to breed new horses as to restore the number of horses, almost destroyed by bloody wars, so the animals arrived at the factories chaotically, without prior selection and any requirements to the purity of the breed. However, rather quickly on the basis of the collected animals, the breeding herd was formed, from which the improvement of the Don breed began. For this purpose, at the first stage, the Donchaks were crossed with horses of purebred English riding breed, and after that, the obtained semicolons, the so-called English-Donchaks, were used for further work. Three stallions are considered to be the ancestors of the Budyonnovsk horses: Inferno, Simpatyaga, and Cocos.

The story about Budyonnovskiy breed would be incomplete if the famous horse-breeding plant named after the First Cavalry Army was not mentioned in it. It was this breeding farm that became a kind of "cradle" of Budyonnovsk horses. In the second half of the 60s of the last century, it was headed by V. I. Muravyov, thanks to whose efforts many valuable breeding mare were bred. Such approach to breeding allowed to make a serious breakthrough in improving the characteristics of these wonderful animals
