Россиянин Виктор Бут, отбывающий наказание в американской тюрьме, регулярно получает письма поддержки от сограждан. Об этом сообщил «Известиям» сам предприниматель, которого власти Соединенных Штатов приговорили к 25 годам лишения свободы. В интервью он также рассказал об отношении в тюрьме, возможности вернуться на родину, проблемах общества в США и о том, что помогает ему справиться со сложной жизненной ситуацией.
Russian citizen Victor Bout, who is serving a sentence in a US prison, regularly receives letters of support from fellow citizens. The businessman told it to Izvestia. He was sentenced by the United States authorities to 25 years in prison. In an interview, he also spoke about the relationship in prison, the possibility of returning to his motherland, the problems of society in the United States and what helps him cope with a difficult life situation.
— Расскажите о своем распорядке дня в тюрьме. С чего начинается ваше утро?
— Эта тема так часто обсуждается... Даже с психологической точки зрения мне бы не хотелось об этом говорить. Обычная рутина и распорядок. Я нахожусь в одиночной камере. Раньше преподавал русский язык некоторым заключенным. Эта возможность есть и сейчас, но пока нет желающих. А те, кто раньше учился у меня, либо перевелись, либо уже вышли на волю.
- Tell us about your schedule in prison. How do you start your morning?
- This topic is so often discussed ... Even from a psychological point of view, I would not like to talk about it. The usual routine and schedule. I'm in solitary confinement. Previously, I taught Russian to some prisoners. There is still an opportunity , but nobody wants. And those who I taught have either been transferred or released already .
— Многие российские заключенные в американских тюрьмах жалуются на условия содержания. От вас таких заявлений никогда не звучало. С чем это связано?
— А разве это поможет? Когда понимаешь, как работает вся система, ты вынужден просто приспосабливаться. Необходимо как-то меняться. Поймите, власти России в курсе всех моих проблем. Зачем мне писать слезливые, жалобные письма, просить о помощи? Правительство и посольство знают, что надо
делать. Как только появится возможность, я не сомневаюсь в том, что они предпримут необходимые шаги. Мозоль очень старая и больная, все это знают.
- Many Russian prisoners in US prisons complain about their conditions. Nobody heard anything like this from you. What is the reason?
- Will it really help? When you understand how the whole system works, you just have to adapt. Need to change yourself somehow. You should understand that the Russian authorities are aware of all my problems. Why should I write tearful, mournful letters, ask for help? The government and the embassy know what to do. As soon as an opportunity arises, I have no doubt that they will take the necessary steps. The pet peeve is very old and aching, everyone knows it.
- But still, what helps you cope with all the difficulties?
— Поймите, это комплекс мер, которые помогают. Точно так же, как мы каждый день умываемся, человек должен себя очищать морально и эмоционально. Я составил себе определенную программу и следую этому плану. В сложившейся ситуации особенно важна внутренняя дисциплина. Диета, занятие фитнесом, йога — всё взаимосвязано.
- You should understand that this is a set of measures that help. In the same way as we wash ourselves every day, a person must cleanse himself morally and emotionally. I made myself a specific program and follow this plan. In this situation, internal discipline is especially important. Diet, fitness, yoga - everything is interconnected.
Требуется баланс. Наше здоровье и эмоциональное благополучие строится на трех столпах — сон, работа, которая приносит удовольствие, и питание. Если что-то нарушается, то организм дает сбой. Стол не может стоять на двух ногах. Съел больше сахара, начались одни проблемы, переборщил с остальным, ощущаешь другие трудности
Balance is necessary. Our health and emotional well-being is built on three pillars - sleep, work that brings pleasure, and nutrition. If something is broken, the body fails. The table cannot stand on two legs. You ate more sugar, some problems started, went too far with the rest, you feel other difficulties.
Конечно, сильно помогает поддержка друзей и семьи. Кроме того, очень много незнакомых людей пишут письма со словами поддержки. Большое спасибо им за это. Это серьезная помощь. При этом сообщения приходят со всех концов России — из Калининграда, Хабаровска, откуда только не пишут. Стараюсь по возможности всем отвечать.
Of course, the support of friends and family helps a lot. Besides, a lot of strangers write letters with words of support. I am so grateful to them for it. It really helps. В тюрьме вы находитесь уже более десяти лет. Вы продолжаете верить в то, что вам удастся доказать свою невиновность и вернуться в Россию до окончания тюремного срока?
— Апельсин надо есть по долькам, не нужно его сразу засовывать весь в рот. Что будет завтра, никто не знает. Заявлять, что я досижу свой срок, — это то же самое, что мы с вами сейчас договоримся о том, какая будет погода через три месяца в Москве в этот час дня.
You have already been for more than ten years in prison. Do you continue believing that you need to prove your innocence and return to Russia before the end of the prison term?
- An orange should be eaten in slices. No one knows what happens tomorrow. To claim that I am going to be released in the end of the term is something like we agree on the weather in three months in Moscow at this hour of the day.
Что касается невиновности, то доказывать кому? Какой системе? Посмотрите, что творится в Соединенных Штатах. Они пытаются сейчас сделать то, что сделали со мной, не только со своими заслуженными генералами, которые возглавляли органы безопасности длительное время, но и с президентом. Американская система правосудия превратилась в дешевый балаган. Эта страна находится на пороге больших преобразований и, по моему мнению, революции, которая просто неизбежна. И дай Бог, чтобы всё прошло без крови. Многие тут готовы к гражданской войне: в разные стороны разведены, все до зубов вооружены и только ждут момента, пока кто-нибудь начнет проливать кровь.
As for innocence, who should I prove it to? Which system? See what's going on in the United States. They are now trying to do what they did to me, not only with their honoured generals, who headed the security agencies for a long time, but also with the president. The American justice system has become a cheap farce. This country is on the verge of big transformations and, in my opinion, a revolution that is simply inevitable. And God bless that everything goes without
blood. Many people here are ready for civil war: set apart, everyone is armed to the teeth and just waiting for the moment when someone starts shedding blood.
Необходимо смотреть на геополитическую ситуацию. Ведь я здесь сижу только в назидание другим россиянам, чтобы все боялись подобной участи и прогибались перед США, опасаясь каких-либо действий. И все эти экстрадиции, захваты наших соотечественников — это, знаете, просто попытка Рима в его последние дни доказать миру, что они еще что-то могут.
It is necessary to look at the geopolitical situation. After all, I am sitting here only as an edification to other Russians, so that everyone would fear a similar fate and bend over to the United States, fearing any action. And all these extraditions, the seizures of our compatriots — this, you know, is just an attempt of Rome in his last days to prove to the world that they can do anything else.
Вы сталкиваетесь с дискриминацией в тюрьме? — Я бы не сказал. Контингент в тюрьме ко мне в целом хорошо относится. Более того, авторитет России сильно вырос, и я замечаю интерес к нашей стране. Многие американцы спрашивают меня о моей стране. Интересуются реальной ситуацией, как переехать или посетить нашу страну. Речь идет не только о заключенных, но и об охранниках. И даже самые промытые головы начинают осознавать, что что-то не так. Доверие к СМИ сейчас совсем на низком уровне. Поэтому отношение довольно ровное, так как даже охрана зачастую не понимает, почему эта вся вакханалия происходит.
Do you face discrimination in prison?
- I would not say. The contingent in prison treats me generally well. Moreover, the authority of Russia has grown greatly, and I notice an interest in our country. Many Americans ask me about my country. They are interested in the real situation, how to move to or visit our country. It is not only about prisoners, but also about the guards. And even the most washed heads are beginning to realize that something is wrong. The credibility of the media is now quite low. Therefore, the attitude is quite even, since even the security often does not understand why this whole orgy occurs.
За все эти годы у меня сложилось впечатление, что обычные американцы в большей степени выступают за хорошие отношения с Россией. По крайней мере это касается тех, кто живет в глубинке. Там, где я сижу, народ консервативный, прямой. И думаю, нас это больше объединяет, чем разъединяет. А политики, которые сейчас пытаются рулить в Вашингтоне и осложняют международные отношения, — это всё временно.
For all these years, I got the impression that ordinary Americans are more in favor of good relations with Russia. At least this applies to those who live in the outback. Where I sit, the people are conservative and direct. And I think it unites us more than separates. And the politicians who are now trying to steer in Washington and complicate international relations – it is all temporary.
— Кажется, вы вообще не хотите говорить о проблемах?
— Зачем я вам сейчас буду жаловаться и рассказывать о своих проблемах. Кому интересно читать о трудностях других людей. Проблема одна и очень большая — хочется домой.
- It seems you don’t want to talk about your problems at all?
- Why am I going to complain and tell about my problems now? Who is interested in reading about the difficulties of other people. The problem is one and very big - I want to go home.
— Сейчас ваша семья ждет получения американской визы для поездки в США. Что для вас означает возможность увидеться с родными?
— Я не видел их более шести лет. Конечно, скучаю и хочу их увидеть. Сейчас жду, когда наконец-то сработает американская машина и им выдадут визы. Главное, чтобы у нас к этому времени сохранились дипотношения. А то они в любой момент могут пойти на разрыв. Вообще всё катится к тому, что они попытаются все-таки спровоцировать вооруженный конфликт с Россией. Посмотрите на истерию в СМИ, на промывание мозгов. Складывается впечатление, что они действительно сегодня готовятся к тому, что будет конфликт между нашими странами. Ведь главный лозунг сейчас звучит так: «Россия — враг, и с ним надо бороться». Мы ежедневно в местных газетах читаем о том, как наша страна снова сделала что-то плохое.
- Now your family is waiting for a US visa to travel to the United States. What does the opportunity to see your relatives mean to you?
- I have not seen them for more than six years. Sure, I miss them and want to see them. Now I'm waiting for the American machine to finally work and my relatives will be given visas. The main thing is that we should have diplomatic relations by this time. And then at any moment they can go to the end of the relationship. In general, everything is heading towards the fact that they will still try to provoke an armed conflict with Russia. Look at the hysteria in the media, the brainwashing. It seems that today they are really preparing for the conflict between our countries. After all, the main slogan now sounds like this: "Russia is an enemy, and we must fight it." We read daily in local newspapers about how our country did something bad again.
— Ваша супруга рассказывала о трудностях с питанием в тюрьме, что вызывает проблемы со здоровьем. В частности, вам приходится компенсировать нехватку витаминов сбором съедобной травы с прогулочной площадки. Как обстоит ситуация сейчас?
— Данная проблема связана с системой и теми привычками питания, которые выработало американское общество. Заставить их что-то поменять очень сложно. Они просто не понимают, что я хочу от них. Это даже больше культурный вопрос, вопрос менталитета. Представьте, что китаец в России будет просить какие-нибудь куриные лапки, которые у нас никто не ест. Так и здесь.
- Your spouse talked about nutritional difficulties in prison, which cause health problems. In particular, you have to compensate for the lack of vitamins by collecting edible grass from the walking area. What is the situation like now?
- This problem is related to the system and the eating habits that American society has developed. It is very difficult to make them change something. They just do not understand what I want from them. This is even more a cultural question, a question of mentality. Imagine that a Chinese in Russia will ask for some chicken legs that nobody eats in our country. It is all the same here.
Пока ситуация не очень критична. Ведь это вопрос больше здорового образа жизни, а не выживания. Конечно, хочется свежих фруктов и овощей. Но и тут наши понятия расходятся. Они просто не понимают, о чем я говорю и что меня вдруг не устраивает. По их стандартам это нормальное питание. В принципе как они привыкли питаться на улице, так тут и кормят.
The situation is not very critical for a while. After all, it is a matter of the healthy lifestyle not of survival. Sure, I’d like to get some fresh fruit and vegetables. But even here our concepts diverge. They just don't understand what I’m talking about and what I dislike. They think such nutrition is okay. Generally, they feed us the same way as they got used to eat out.
