No holiday in Finland can be compared with Christmas in splendor, beauty and greatness. This is the most beloved and long-awaited day of the Finnish calendar. For the celebration are preparing in advance, considering how to decorate the house and what to cook as a surprise for relatives and friends.
Very often, the Finns themselves make Christmas decorations and gifts, that is, they literally make Christmas with their own hands. Starting from the simplest things - greeting cards - and ending with hoisting up on the roofs of the houses of the Christmas cross.
In every Finnish house there are Christmas sweets and hand-made decorations. These can be toys, homemade candles, garlands, baked ginger houses, cardboard figures of angels, dwarves and much more.
Postcards - a separate story. Finns are still mailing to all their relatives and friends, even business partners. Their production is a rather complicated and long process. It is necessary to pick up ribbons, stickers, glitter, which will consist of a postcard. Cut pictures, stick and sign them.
But not only ladies make decorations for the holiday. So, in the villages of Ostrobothnia, where they speak Swedish, men still make the Christmas cross. It is decorated with garlands, fir branches and hoisted on the roofs of houses. According to tradition, the cross is lit on the eve of Christmas, turning an ordinary village into a fabulous space.
And if you add to this the family warmth and joy of meeting with loved ones, you can understand why Christmas is the most beloved and bright holiday that the Finns have been looking forward to for a whole year.
