Marcus Thuram, son of Lilian, entered Wednesday against Finland in the small circle of French internationals from father to son, a rarity in history also lived in other selections.
- Thuram, sevnth in the list -
More than twelve years after his last appearance in Blue, the French team selection record holder Lilian Thuram (142 capes between 1994 and 2008) sees his son Marcus take over the family torch during a friendly Wednesday night against Finland at the Stade de France. The current Mönchengladbach striker and the 1998 World champion are thus following in the footsteps of six previous dynasties in the Blues.
- Roger (18 selections) then Patrice Rio (17 sél.): the former FC Rouen striker and the former Nantes defender both wore the blue jersey in the World Cup, the father in 1934 and the son in 1978.
- René (1 SEL.) then Jean Gallice (7 SEL.): of the two Bordeaux players, son Jean is the one with the most selections, all between 1974 and 1976. As coach, the former Girondins striker led France's Under-19 team to the European title in 2005, with Hugo Lloris in the sights.
- Guy (2 SEL.) then Didier Sénac (3 sél.): the former wore the tricolor Jersey in the early 1970s as defender of RC Paris, the latter succeeded him as defender of RC Lens in the following decade. The latter was also crowned at the JO-1984 with the Blues.
- René (1 SEL.) then Pierre Pleimelding (1 SEL.): the former Toulouse defender and the former Lille striker played only one friendly each, in 1953 and 1978 respectively.
- Julien (1 SEL.) then Yannick Stopyra (33 SEL.): although the father only played a friendly in 1960, the attacking son also wore the tricolor tunic thirty times in the 1980s. He reached the semi-final of the World Cup-1986 with the" magic square " (Platini, Giresse, Fernandez, Tigana).
- John (48 SEL.) then Youri Djorkaeff (82 SEL.): the Djorkaeff father and son have 130 selections together, each having marked the history of the Blues in their own way. Defender of Lyon, Marseille and Paris, Jean has worn the captain's armband 24 times since 1969. As for Youri, attacking midfielder of Monaco, Paris, Milan and Kaiserslautern, he won the World Cup in 1998 and the Euro in 2000.
- Abroad, Maldini or Gudjohnsen -
Outside France, the Maldini family holds the palme d'or with its three successive internationals: grandfather Cesare (14 SEL. between 1960 and 1963), later became coach of the Italian team, Father Paolo (126 SEL. between 1986 and 2002) then son Daniel, current 19-year-old AC Milan striker who has a handful of selections in the youth categories.
Currently playing in Denmark's cage, Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester) has taken over from his father Peter, an iconic Manchester United goalkeeper who accumulated 129 caps mainly in the 1990s. Le paternel has a much more packed trophy cabinet with notably the Euro-1992 and the 1999 Champions League.
With Iceland, Eidur Gudjohnsen literally succeeded his father Arnór (73 SEL.), on 24 April 1996, replacing him in a friendly against Estonia for the first of his 88 capes.
After having made the happiness of OM and Ghana (73 SEL.) in the 1990s, Abedi Pelé saw his sons André and Jordan Ayew wear the Olympian Jersey and that of the "Black Stars". Andre (Swansea / English 2nd division) is the current captain of Jordan (Crystal Palace) in the Ghanaian squad.
Pierre-Emeric Aubameyang, the current Arsenal striker, wears him the captain's armband with the selection of Gabon (51 sél.) also attended by his father Pierre (80 SEL.) in the 1990s mainly.
