The cat is perhaps the most mystical animal, so many legends and beliefs are associated with it, like no other animal. And we will return more than once to the mysterious stories about the life of cats. Now let's find out why they say so: "A cat has 9 lives."
This phrase, of course, is of mythical origin and is associated with the natural strong instinct of a cat - to survive in difficult troubles. There is even a saying: "tenacious like a cat." When they say this about a person, they mean that he is hardy, strong, tempered, tireless, able to withstand any difficulties.
Flexibility, speed and incredible balancing ability when a cat fell from a height did not give rest to scientists - physicists. The study of this phenomenon began in the late 60s of the last century. Many reputable scientists from different countries have carried out research with cats and WITHOUT - creating mathematical abstraction.
One of the clearest and simplest explanations for such "tricks" of cats in the air is their wonderful vestibular apparatus, like that of astronauts. It is located in the inner ear of a cat. The vestibular apparatus, together with the cat's reflexes, are so well developed that they can easily walk on the ridge of the roof or on the branches of trees. In this case, the tail, which, as a rule, has a length equal to half the length of the body, provides her with balance and balance. When a cat falls, it instinctively spreads its paws to the sides, as a result of which it becomes like a parachute! This is called the "parachute effect" - this movement of the paws allows the cat to land "softly".
The cat performs two basic techniques during the fall.
The first is the movement of the tail: keeping the tail at an angle to its body, the cat makes a rotational movement with it, and the whole body turns out slightly in the opposite direction (the law of equality of action and reaction). The muscles that rotate the tail in one direction, at the same time, pushing away from the body, cause it to turn in the opposite direction. No violation of mechanics by the law!
The second slots are admiral reception - when the cat falls, it turns the front half of its body, at the same time the back half turns in the opposite direction by the same angle.
The cat repeats both techniques over and over, alternating order and direction, extending and pressing first and then hind legs and thus reaches the required turn in the right direction until it reaches the ground. That is why a cat that has fallen from a great height can be healthier and healthier than one that falls from a low one: it simply does not have enough time to turn around the firm's slot machines.
Thus, our homely cute, but such graceful cats have destroyed one scientific prejudice that had existed for a whole century - that the body cannot change the position of the axis of rotation without the participation of an external force.
