6 tips of how to survive in Austria

You moved to Austria permanently and want to learn the manners and customs oft he aborigenes in ordert to coexist with them peacefully and without fuzz. Here I present you with 6 tips of how to assimilate and integrate quickly.

Tip 1. Talk about food as often as possible. Food ist a large part of the essence of existance for the average Austrian. Austrians eat anywhere at any time. Feel free to tell about what you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which restaurant you will go to today, and where in Venna in your humble opinion you can enjoy the most delicious Schnitzel. Just remember that food is in the heart of all Austrians.

Tip 2. Speak German with mistakes and permanently underline the fact that German ist extremely difficult and you can´t master it. Don´t boast your knowleadge of the German language – be humble. Otherwise you can hurt the feelings of the sensible Austrians who themselves are not so strong in the so-called Hochdeutsch and confuse the cases at times. So I advise you to make mistakes from time to time to achieve a sympathetic acceptance by the natives.

Tip 3. Choose the right hobbies. Keep away from admitting that you are fond of reading books. Talking about books is a mauvais ton. Better for you to be fond of skiing, walking in the mountains or sitting in the garden under a tree for a cup of coffee. This will make you more appealing to Austrians around you.

Tip 4. Never be satisfied. Keep being angry about weather, government, refugees, migrants and women in headscarves. A self-respecting Austrian will always find a reason for dissatisfaction.

Tip 5. Be extremely polite. This is the case when the more the better. Always say Hello, Thank you, Please and excuse me. Don´t be rude. In this way you will set yourself in a good position in your place of work with colleagues, with the sales person at the nearest market and your old lady neighbor.

Tio 6. Dont be shy and be proud to tell everybody here that you are from Russia, that Russia is big and cold, that everyone drinks vodka, and the Russian language is terribly difficult. Austrians are very interested in Russia and often watch the documentaries about Siberia. Almost every Austrian dreams of going on a trip on the Transsibirian train. Let people talk. And you will learn a lot of new things about Russia and your interlocutor will be happy to shine with knowleadge.
