Liquid gold, Gift of The gods, tears of the Saints…
it's all about olive oil.
Unrefined olive oil is widely recognized among people trying to lead a healthy lifestyle and supporters of proper nutrition. Although many of us think not only about our own health, but also about the health of our dear people. Using unrefined olive oil, we enrich our body with useful trace elements, natural antioxidants, vitamins A, B, D, and K. It also contains a large amount of oleic acid that is useful for the body.
Do you know why unrefined olive oil is called Extra Virgin? Extra Virgin translates as the highest quality, and the highest quality status can only have the oil that is pressed directly from olives, i.e. the first cold pressing (without any heating) and exclusively by mechanical pressing of the fruit. To produce 1 liter of Extra Virgin olive oil, you need 7-8 kilograms of olives.
If you go to a regular chain grocery supermarket, it is likely that you will not see a large assortment of unrefined olive oil on its shelves. But as I wrote earlier in my previous articles in St. Petersburg, there is a whole exclusive chain of stores called "Olivia". The name, of course, speaks for itself. On the shelves of this store you will find not only your usual unrefined olive oil, but also unfiltered oil, unrefined olive oil of "organic" origin, single-grade oils (made from a certain type of olive fruit), all kinds of flavored olive oils with natural additives, oils with protected geographical indications of origin (made in certain regions of Italy, Spain and Greece). It's a good thing that there's a tasting table. You can taste new unusual oils on it. I've never used unfiltered olive oil before. It turned out to be quite thick with a rich taste and aroma. I really liked the oil and bought a bottle. Next time I want to buy and try olive oil from a specific region and tell you about my taste sensations.
But I don't really want it to be too bitter. Although as it turned out, there is the same benefit of unrefined olive oil. And the more bitter it is, the more valuable it is! But I prefer to choose the Golden path, i.e. the average bitterness. I will get acquainted with different tastes and aromas, because it is interesting, delicious and last but not least useful!
