Есть места, в которые очень хочется вернуться. Псков один из них. Как и квартиры, города бывают холодные и стильные, а бывают попроще, но по-домашнему спокойные. Может просто внутреннее состояние создало ощущение уюта. Я называю этот город метисом. Разные культуры составили неповторимый коктейль. Это ощущается в архитектуре, культуре. В легендах тоже прослеживается смешанная линия.
В этом городе спит спящая красавица, окруженная несметными сокровищами. Только мужчина с чистыми помыслами и добрым сердцем сможет разбудить девушку. Он должен 12 дней и ночей провести рядом с любимой в подземелье, выполняя все, что начертано у изголовья ее кровати. Если он это сделает, то красавица станет его женой, а вот сокровища можно будет взять только для того, чтобы потратить во благо псковичей. Красивая легенда. И если она напоминает нам о спящей красавице и романе Н. В. Гоголя "Вий", то другая связана с Тунисом.
Так получилось, что после поездки в Тунис, мы попали в Псков. И услышав эту легенду, я была очень удивлена. Сейчас объясню почему. Связана она с посещением города Иваном Грозным.
Во время похода на Ригу путь лежал через Изборск и Печоры. В Печорах архимандритом был преподобный Корнилий (видимо, просвещенный человек). Он благословил Ивана Грозного, и попросил разрешения поставить оградку вокруг монастыря. Государь согласился, но с условием, что она будет небольшая. Корнилий уверил, что земли она займет столько же, сколько воловья шкура. Иван Грозный покидает Печоры. Семь лет воюет под Ригой. Возвращаясь, он остолбенел. Вокруг монастыря стоит крепость. Разозлился правитель. Оказалось, что Корнилий выполнил все требования. Шкуру разрезал на тонкие ремешки, огородив большое пространство стеной. Крепость стояла на воловьей шкуре. Архимандрита это не спасло. Ему отрубили голову, считая, что это подготовка к войне. Корнилий взял свою голову и держа ее в руках, начал преследовать царя (вспомнила о Меркурии Смоленском). Взмолился тогда монарх об отпущении грехов. Упал замертво Корнилий, но после этого царь никогда больше не был в тех местах.
Если вы слышали легенду о возникновении Карфагена, то понимаете, о чем я. Таким же образом царица Дидона, прибыв на территорию современного Туниса, попросила местного короля выделить кусочек земли, который сможет покрыть воловья шкура.
Но я хочу рассказать совершенно другую историю. Предыдущая связана со вторым появлением Грозного. Первое было не менее эпохальным и тоже породило интересную легенду.
Псков был частью новгородских земель. За заслуги он получил статус губернии. Тогда новгородцы решили подчинить псковичей силой. Ничего не вышло. Ивану Грозному пришла жалоба, что псковичи бунтуют. Он отправляется подавлять бунт. Псковичи узнают, что государь остановился в Любятове, звонят во все колокола, собирая народ на молитву, чтобы властитель сменил гнев на милость. Утром Микола Христоуродливый сказал каждому жителю города поставить около входа в дом стол, на котором должны быть хлеб и соль. Священники в праздничных ризах ждали монарха у ворот. Встречал Грозного и Микола. Скакал он на палочке и кричал, чтобы "Ивашка" ел хлеб-соль, но не пил кровь человеческую. Царю объяснили, что это местный блаженный. Позвал его Микола к себе домой. А вместо хлеба и соли подал на стол сырое мясо. Возмутился монарх, что с ним обходятся как с собакой, подав сырое мясо, да еще и в пост. Микола ответил, что гость его хуже собаки, потому что ест человеческое мясо. Иван Грозный был очень набожным. Слова блаженного его испугали. Он уехал восвояси, ничего не сделав псковичам.

There are places you want to return to. Pskov is one of them. Like apartments, cities are cold and stylish, while they are simpler, but calm at home. Maybe this internal state created a feeling of comfort. I call this city a mestizo. Different cultures made up a unique cocktail. It is felt in architecture, culture. The legends also show a mixed line.
In this city, a sleeping beauty sleeps surrounded by treasures. Only a man with pure thoughts and a good heart can wake a girl. He should be next to his beloved in the dungeon for 12 days and nights, doing everything that is inscribed at the head of her bed. If he does, then the beauty will become his wife, but treasures can only be taken in order to spend for the benefit of the Pskov people. A beautiful legend. And if it reminds us of the sleeping beauty and the novel by N. V. Gogol “Viy”, then the other is connected with Tunisia.
It so happened that after a trip to Tunisia, we ended up in Pskov. And having heard this legend, I was very surprised. Now I will explain why. It is associated with a visit to the city of Ivan the Terrible.
During the campaign to Riga, the path lay through Izborsk and Pechora. In Pechora the archimandrite was the Monk Cornelius (apparently, an enlightened man). He blessed Ivan the Terrible, and asked for permission to put up a fence around the monastery. The sovereign agreed, but with the condition that it be small. Cornelius assured that she would occupy the land as much as an oxhide. Ivan the Terrible leaves Pechora. He has been fighting near Riga for seven years. Returning, he was dumbfounded. Around the monastery is a fortress. Angry ruler. It turned out that Cornelius fulfilled all the requirements. The ox skin was cut into thin straps, enclosing a large space with a wall. The fortress stood on the skin of an ox. This did not save Archimandrite. His head was chopped off, believing that this was preparation for war. Cornelius took his head and holding it in his hands, began to pursue the king (remembered Mercury Smolensky). The monarch then prayed for the remission of sins. Cornelius fell dead, but after that the king was never again in those places.
If you heard the legend about the origin of Carthage, then you understand what I mean. In the same way, Queen Dido, arriving in the territory of modern Tunisia, asked the local king to allocate a piece of land that could cover the oxhide.
But I want to tell a completely different story. The previous one is connected with the second appearance of Ivan the Terrible. The first was no less epoch-making and also gave rise to an interesting legend.
Pskov was part of the Novgorod lands. For his merits, he received the status of a province. Then the Novgorodians decided to subjugate the Pskov by force. Nothing came of it. Ivan the Terrible complained that the Pskov rebels. He goes to suppress the riot. The Pskovs heard the news that the sovereign had stopped in Lyubyatov, they rang all the bells, gathering people for prayer, so that the ruler changed anger to mercy. In the morning, Mikola the Christ-pleasing told every resident of the city to put a table near the entrance to the house, on which there should be bread and salt. Priests in festive robes were waiting for the monarch at the gate. Met Ivan the Terrible and Mikol. He rode on a stick and shouted that Ivashka should eat bread and salt, but not drink human blood. The king was explained that this is a local blessed one. Mikola called him to his home. Instead of bread and salt, he served raw meat on the table. The monarch was indignant that he was treated like a dog, serving raw meat, and even in fasting. Mikola replied that his guest was worse than a dog, because he eats human meat. Ivan the Terrible was very pious. The blessed words frightened him. He left home without doing anything to the Pskovites.
