Привет, коллеги!
Рождественская тематика для меня одна из самых любимых тем. Большое разнообразие аутентичных материалов в сети удовлетворят вкусы даже самых взыскательных преподавателей. Я отношу себя к их числу. Мне непременно нужно, чтобы дети не просто обсудили Рождество на английском, но и ушли с занятия с особым Christmassy mood. Делюсь с вами планом урока, который подготовила в этом году для своих учеников 9-11 классов.
Первая половина урока направлена на individual or group discussion. Просим учащихся ответить на вопросы или выразить своё отношение к цитате и объяснить свою точку зрения. При необходимости помогаем им с лексикой.
1. What things spring to mind when you think of Christmas and New Year?
2. Read the quote. To what extent do you agree with Edna Ferber? Give your reasoning.
Christmas isn't a season. It's a feeling. Edna Ferber
3. How does the holiday mood feel? Give a few adjectives or nouns.
4. Think of a Christmas or New Year memory from your childhood. Share it with the rest of the class/group and say why it is special to you.
5. Are holidays more fun when you’re a kid than when you’re a grown-up? Why or why not?
6. Read the quote below. Do you think Charles M. Schulz is right? Explain your point of view.

7. How important is the custom of gift-giving at Christmas?
8. What do you like more to give presents or to get presents?
9. How could you interpret the lines from Dr Seuss's book How the Grinch stole Christmas?

Before watching:
Разбираем слова, которые могут вызвать трудности. Я предпочитаю делать это в виде вопросов. Когда студенты пропускают слова через себя, они лучше их запоминают.
1. If somebody works round the clock, do they work hard?
(to work round the clock means to work all day and all night without stopping; Staff have been working around the clock to resolve the problems)
Think of people who work round the clock to make our Christmas and New Year holidays satisfying.
2. If someone isn't cutting it, are they doing a good or a bad job?
((informal) not to be as good as is expected or needed He won't cut it as a professional singer)
3. If you're doomed, are you going to succeed or fail?
(be doomed = certain to fail, suffer, die, etc. The movie tells the story of a doomed love affair. He thinks the company is utterly doomed.)
Затем предлагаем учащимся ответить на вопросы:
1. What would you like to get for Christmas or New Year?
2. Do you think Chrismas should mean more than gifts?
After watching:
Обсуждаем, какой посыл заложен в видео. Просим ребят описать видео одним-двумя прилагательными (heart-warming, thought-provoking, etc). Затем отвечаем на вопросы:
1. Which Christmas gift idea did the elves come up with?
2. What makes the idea of giving 'the holiday spirit' these days more relevant than ever?
3. What feelings and emotions would you wrap in a box to send to your friends and family members this year?
4. What would you like to see in your gift-box?
В конце урока просим ребят поделиться своими мыслями по следующим вопросам:
1. What is it that you miss the most about New Year and Christmas when you were a child?
2. Oxford English Dictionary has called this year 'unprecedented'. How would you define 2020 in one or two words?
3. What are your expectations for the coming year?
