The photo was taken in June 1941 in Belarus, a photographer from Völkischer Beobachter, which invaded the Soviet Union with the advance units of the Ewald von Kleist.
On the back of the original author’s photo hand written in German: The Bolshevik’s Red army soldier did not have time to throw a grenade. German splinter broke through his helmet.
