Are you tired of having your bathroom drains clogged up with hair or other buildups? Do you want your sink or bathtub drain running smoothly? If so, we have an easy trick to help you get the gunk out of your drains.
What you will need to to get the job done
• Drain Claw
• Screw Driver
• Rubber gloves
• Rags or Other Cleaning Materials
One of the quickest ways to clear a plugged drain is with a drain claw, a handy little tool you can find at most hardware stores. They are inexpensive and reusable, and something any homeowner should have on hand.
1. First, you will want to remove the strainer from the drain. This may require a screwdriver depending on your brand of the tub. If your drain has a stopper instead of a strainer, remove it by twisting and pulling it from the drain.
2. Next, wipe away any scum or other waste that may have accumulated below the strainer or stopper to prevent it from further clogging your system. You will want to wear gloves during this portion to prevent contact with the gunk in the drain.
3. Insert the drain claw into the drain into the drain. After it has been inserted a few inches it will run into a curved part of pipe called the drain trap. Push the claw past the trap in the drain to try and reach the clog.
4. Now, pull out the drain claw. Clean off the hair and build up from it and repeat the last step until you feel the drain has been cleared.
5. Next, run some water down the drain. If it goes down properly your drain is cleared, otherwise, you may need to repeat the steps.
6. Finally, as long as the drain cleared correctly, replace the strainer or stopper.
I hope this tutorial helped you to clean your drains properly. It is important to note that you should be able to clear the drain of hair and other debris easily and the clog should not come back if a simple backup was the actual cause of your problems. If you find that it is repeatedly clogs or that you are unable to make the water go down, then chances are that you have a larger issue at hand.
