Russian girl in Finnish world

One thing all Finns are crazy about

Nearly every citizen of Finland always have special bibelots, that can be different shapes and sizes, but they all are united by the ability of reflecting the light.

Finland is a north country and it means that in winter time it gets dark very fast and daylight hours poor (some part of the country is even placed behind the polar circle, so there is a polar night phenomenon). That's why in dark period (usually from October till March) the Finnish government obliges citizens to have some reflectors on their clothes or as an accessory - shaped as a cartoon character with a chain to attach it your bag or a wristband-reflector. Some manufacturers produce clothes with sewed reflectors in. Considerable part of Finnish people live literally in the forests, so risk of being hit by a car on a country road is high. Moreover, there are some areas where illumination on roads is insufficient. Thus, the reflectors are not just an accessory or an element of design, it's great more - this thing once can save your life. Some surveys say, that reflectors increase your visibility on the streets 3 times.

This is mine. I bought it long time ago. Looks very patriotic, isn't it? :D I love angry birds, by the way :)

By the way, on the last of our orientation days everyone has been given a -bibelot-reflector to put on our bags and provide a bit safety.

In my country this problem is also actual. According to statistics every year thousands of people die on the roads. Maybe if our government also implement such a rule and obligate every pedestrian to have a reflector, the number of lives we lose annually will decrease.
