Self-education plays an important role in every person’s life. Some people consider summer to be the most appropriate period for self-learning, whereas others do not agree with this viewpoint.
As for me, I support the above statement. Firstly, summer is the holiday season, and, therefore, people have more free time to spend on the studying material they are interested in. Secondly, fine weather and long daylight hours during summertime ensure a comfortable learning environment; people can learn not only indoors but also in the open air, in a peaceful atmosphere of parks and gardens. Finally, people usually feel physically and mentally better in summer, which is conducive to the acquisition of knowledge as well.
However, there are people who think differently. They are convinced that summer is meant for a break from studies of any kind. Year-round information overload can affect a person’s health. Therefore, it is necessary to shift emphasis from intellectual to leisure activities, which is best done in summer with its wide range of recreational opportunities.
I do not share the opposing position. Regardless of the season, self-education cannot do harm because it gives pleasure, raises self-esteem and allows freedom of choice. After all, it is always possible to reconcile learning and leisure in activities like travelling.
In conclusion, I would like to say again that summer can be regarded as the best season for self-education due to a perfect combination of such factors as spare time, favourable weather conditions and a person’s increased feeling of well-being.
