The electronic brain is a lamp brain, and later a positron brain is as much an essential element of the future entourage as a spacecraft. And the situation with it is not easy. Most likely, in the foreseeable future, artificial intelligence will indeed be created. But fantasists, in any case, missed in this area twice.
First of all, it never occurred to anyone that reasonable activity is easier to imitate than to reproduce. In fiction, only intelligent robots have the gift of difficult speech. In reality, however, a program capable of creating the appearance of a meaningful conversation does not think. And she should not. There are not many people with whom a really thinking program would like to talk.
Secondly, artificial intelligence is usually used inefficiently in fantasy worlds. A reasonable robot turns out to be either a good copy of a person or a bad copy. In the first case, it only creates competition, and in the second case, it simply harms. Obviously, in reality, the electronic brain must necessarily bring benefits that justify the enormous costs of its production. That is to say, to take on the tasks which are impossible for a human being for one reason or another.
The religion of the future
Contrary to the predictions of fiction, religion continues to play a significant role in society. It is even hard to remember which of the authors allowed such an opportunity at all! In the worlds of the unfulfilled future, the authority of science is always limitless. Under the rays of knowledge, absurd relics had to die. But he has survived everything and feels fine.
In fact, the writers once again fell into the trap of extrapolation. Beginning with the XVII century the role of religion was constantly decreasing. It seemed that this would always be the case. Religion, like science, explains the world - and loses to it in this field. But fantasists and futurologists did not take into account that the explanation of the world for religion - only one of the functions. And far from being the most important one. Without offering an alternative answer to the question about the meaning of life and posthumous existence, science could come only in a narrow area of the front, so the demand for the services of the clergy has remained.
Another unpleasant - and unpredictable - the surprise was the blossoming of pseudoscience, quacks, and mystical practices. It seemed that the world long ago there should have been no place for obscurantism, but the explanation of why miracles do not happen does not satisfy the need for a miracle.
Genetic modification
Genetic engineering has not yet achieved impressive results worthy of fantasy. Nevertheless, it is developing quite successfully and many prophecies in this area can be considered fulfilled. And there are opposite examples. For example, the mass, diligently inflated by the press phobia associated with GMO, no one predicted.
The writers, of course, assumed that genetic modification or cloning of a human being would lead to trouble (although they did not agree on the opinion to which one), but no one foresaw the prohibition of experiments in this field. No wonder. In 1950-60 years of the last century the belief in omnipotence and goodness of knowledge was huge and in due course should grow and strengthen only. In such circumstances, where would the phobias and fear of interfering with the forbidden spheres come from?
But it turned out differently. In reality, even if the fears are irrational, public opinion cannot be ignored. Immoral and potentially dangerous experiments will not be tolerated... At least if they do not promise rapid commercial gain or military superiority. In such cases, of course, public opinion will have to make the necessary adjustments.
Video-telephones
Another mandatory element of the "coming" is video communication. And here it is hardly even possible to speak about "prediction". If it is possible to transmit images and sound, sooner or later the equipment required for this will become miniature and publicly available. So, of course, it turned out.
Nevertheless, the fantasists made a mistake, now obvious. Video communication will not replace the usual, sonic connection. Simply because the image, especially three-dimensional and full-length, is priceless only when providing sexual services over the phone. In other circumstances, it will be an excess. As a rule, a sound is quite sufficient for transmitting information. However, recently it also is not a business - the fast text message suffices. And from only smileys.
