 Year 2014

On January 31, 2015, the 2014 China Top Ten Science and Technology Progress News, selected by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was unveiled in Beijing.

 1. The three-phase reentry flight test of the lunar exploration project was a complete success.

The National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau announced that at 6:42 on November 1, 2014, the re-entry flight test returner successfully landed in the scheduled area of Siziwangqi in Inner Mongolia, and the three-phase reentry flight test of China's lunar exploration project was a complete success. The reentry and return flight tester was launched on October 24, 2014 at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China and entered the Earth-Moon Transfer Orbit. Researchers will conduct in-depth research on the data obtained from flight tests and provide technical support for optimizing the design of the Mission No. 5. The tester service bay will continue to fly in space and conduct a series of extended trials. The successful re-entry and return flight test for the first time marks that China has fully broken through and mastered the high-speed reentry and returning key technologies of the spacecraft to approach the speed of the second universe, laying a solid foundation for ensuring the smooth implementation of the mission No. 5 and the continuous exploration of the lunar exploration project. basis.

 2. The 4500-meter deep sea remote-controlled submersible sea trial succeeded

The development of “Hai Ma” is a key project supported by the “863” plan. It is the unmanned remote-controlled submersible system with the largest depth of localization and the highest localization rate independently developed by China so far, and has achieved the localization of key core technologies. As the host of the project, the Ministry of Land and Resources, as the owner of the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey, cooperated with Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Qingdao Ocean Chemical Research Institute, Tongji University and Harbin Engineering University to complete the research and sea trial. In the three-stage sea trial conducted in the South China Sea, the “Hai Mahao” completed 17 dives and reached the bottom of the central sea basin of the South China Sea for three times. The maximum dive depth was 4,502 meters, and 91 on-site assessment of technical indicators was completed. And passed the expert group acceptance. The success of this sea trial marks that China has mastered the key technology of large depth unmanned remotely operated submersibles and is another landmark result after the “Jilong”.

 3. Quantum communication security transmission set a world record

Academician Pan Jianwei of the University of Science and Technology of China and his team cooperated with the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tsinghua University to develop a high-speed independent laser interference technology combined with a high-efficiency, low-noise superconducting nanowire single-photon detector to protect against remote hackers. The quantum key distribution system has a safe distance of 200 kilometers and an increase in the code rate by three orders of magnitude, setting a new world record. The "Physical Review Letter" published on November 7, 2014 published this important achievement. Reviewers commented on "an important milestone in the distribution of practical quantum keys" and "significant progress in physics and technology" and were selected as "Editor's Choice" paper. At the same time, the "Physical World", a website of the European Physical Society, also reported on the topic "Secure Quantum Communication Transmission to Long Distance".
