This article will not be full of reverence for the Vienna museums, but on the contrary, perhaps someone will save up to 30-40 euros on tickets to these so-called museums. I also want children, old people, nursing mothers and those who whole-heartedly support contemporary art to be dropped from the monitor screens.
I won’t say that I’m a fan of contemporary art, I probably haven’t grown up yet, but I try to put up with it and somehow attach myself to it. Accordingly, I was mentally preparing before the trip that there was a difficult and thorny path through the Vienna museums of fine art, because Vienna is famous for its culinary, palaces and museums (mostly in the palaces themselves).
So, let's start with. MQ (or the quarter of museums) - a collection in one place of three “magnificent” museums and exhibition halls at once. Leopold Museum, Cunts Halle and Mumok (Museum of Modern Art). The prices for museums are by no means cheap, but the price of a full breakfast for one museum, since student discounts allow you to at least slightly lower the price. Joyful and pleased, I bought an entrance ticket to the first and third museums, and then it began ...
mumok. Comrades, this is complete P. I understand everything, of course, but if you want to scoff at the minds of visitors in this way, please. The exhibition, as I understand it, is called “and materials, and money and crisis”, it is dedicated, as you might guess ... but who I’m deceiving, it’s not dedicated to anything, just a wild set of some installations for which you have to pay 7 euros! Or does someone want to argue that 1.5 exhibits on a football field is conceptual, new, beautiful, makes you think about the meaning of being ??? Truth?
A brochure with a description is issued at the entrance! all exhibits. Are you seriously? To understand each “art” object, he needs an additional description of 1-2 pages of text in English, right ?! I always believed that art exists for the people, that works of art do not require explanation and / or explanation, that any more or less educated person is able to understand it, but no, as it turned out, I was very and deeply mistaken.
And so the 3 floors of frank delirium ... In the three underground floors a little better, but also filthy, for example, a video where a half-naked girl-author, swinging on the ropes, draws her trajectory on the wall. I guess I should fall into deep thoughts about the Universe ...
You can argue for a long time on the topic that contemporary art tries to be personalized, that everyone fills it with meaning, but let's be honest with ourselves: in most works of art there is no sense. Point.
10-15-20-minute videos showing just at home, a breathing face covered with gold foil, at home, on the background of which a bird flies once every 5 minutes, playing the broken piano ...
I’m just wondering what will happen if we destroy civilization today, or rather most of the people who inhabit it, and then after another century, the remaining people will find Vienna with its museums? They will think that the world was naturally destroyed because it was degraded, but in the 15th, 16th, 17th centuries, when there was a night pot, sorry, not everyone had it, they will take it for the flourishing of humanity, so what ?!
I understand, as an artist, a creator, today, when you can capture a beautiful landscape in a split second with a camera, when you have Photoshop, it’s very difficult to be, but have mercy, is a bunch of threshing floor on the table an art ?!
In the 17th century, artists COULD draw canvases with hundreds of characters, each “dress” in his outfit with his only facial features, and now a circle, two sticks and a painting can be sold at Sotheby's ...
Okay, let’s leave the Museum of Modern Art full of disappointments and move to the Leopold Museum, there are probably a bit older paintings, but the only thing that really deserves attention is the exposition of Gustav Glimt (excellent and often unusual landscapes, but he painted portraits as if with his left foot) and Oscar Kokoshko (colorful views of cities and almost complete despondency in the rest). And even then only a few works are really interesting from an artistic point of view - my artistic point of view.
Portrait of Sonya is just a wonderful picture, and then the author went to the bus ...
The situation is similar in the Belvedere, where in the upper Belvedere an entire floor is reserved for contemporary "art", and the lower Belvedere is oh, you should not even speak. Sorry for all this, sorry ...
Although the palace itself, or rather the palace complex with a park, fountains, entourage of rooms and wall paintings, is simply amazing and you should definitely go there and see all this luxury with your own eyes.
Conclusion, let there be no conclusion. Just let me comment on degenerative artists.
In the Upper Belvedere hangs a huge panel "Napoleon at the St. Bernard Pass". Even after 2 centuries - just think about it, 200 years, but not every house will stand so much! - This picture is simply addictive. Napoleon on horseback calls for new victories, new achievements. He is young, he is decisive, with a frisky horse under him, well, who, tell me, who in 1812 would not have followed him to Russia ?! And this is without any description on the part of the author, without long and tedious explanations, without any guesses and fortune-telling on the coffee grounds. Strong-willed image - go ahead! And where does contemporary art call and lead us?
