You think the streets in your area are dirty and have too much rubbish (garbage) in them. Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
- describe the problem and its effects,
- explain the main causes of the problem,
- and suggest a way to reduce the problem.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to bring to your attention the problem of garbage, which has proliferated in the streets of our town. Pavements are dirty with organic waste, plastic bags and broken glass. All this rubbish has an unpleasant odor; moreover, it ruins the lovely appearance of our neighbourhood. Yesterday I noticed the first graffiti on the wall of a local grocery shop. This would never have happened if there had been no garbage around.
Certainly, I understand that we have difficulties with the current cleaning agency, as Mr. Johnson, who was in charge, has left town for vacation, first time in ten years finally. I guess his members of staff are not workaholics at all, as they let this garbage disaster happen. However, it does not mean that we ought to suffer from these inconveniences.
I suggest that you find a new contractor for this month. There should be some options; in the nearby Kensington the situation with garbage is just perfect. I have heard that they even wash the streets with soap! They probably may manage to clean two small towns in parallel.
Do you think you will be able to handle this situation in the near future? I look forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Daria
