What follows is a detailed description of the construction of the Komodny Genre and the motives that prompted me, Russian composer Vyacheslav Gennadievich Kazarin, to create it (also see the materials in the sections of this subArchive).
COMOD (ancient Slavic-Aryan concept) - COMOM OD: [E] given or created [O] by the circle of joint interaction, collected in one place [KOMOM] in the form of some material values - for what and serves from the most ancient times such a product of household utensils as Komod.
In brief (the main motive that prompted me to create this genre):
During my creative activity (50-year term) a large number of songs were written, which at first glance can be characterized as unclaimed. In fact, these musical and poetic works cannot be referred to working material, to experimental experience, to unsuccessful creative attempts, as well as to some musical and poetic garbage that accompanies any creative process. For, from the point of view of aesthetics-form, these works are quite complete, perfect opuses, up to their practical realization in one form or another.
- In general, these songs (further, under the following specifications we mean not only the sphere of songwriting, but also any creative activity of a person) can be safely correlated with the already existing genre of Author's Song, if it were not for a series of certain features that formed the Comodic Genre as such.
1. The song was written for the purpose of singing it to your family members, friends, backyard neighbors, etc. Why? Yes, it is not much why: to share with others some personal experiences-thoughts. Or for the sake of their own vanity, say, and I can also so and so. That inevitably leads the author (of course, in direct correlation with his innate talent) to the path of professional activity, up to its commercial component.
2. Such an author on the peripetias of his creative advancement accompanied by: diligent rehearsals for a new song (work on the material, its polishing), the acquisition of a professional microphone, video camera or expensive mobile phone, so that soon to engage in the most qualitative publication of its content through the same Internet. That makes the local home-grown author - a professional author-performer.
3. For what the author begins to professionally master playing the guitar, professional vocals, builds in his bedroom creative studio with all the necessary to that technical entourage (rack rack, mini-mixer, chromakey, studio lights, reflectors, etc.).
4. When an attempt to go on stage in front of a live audience for some material reward becomes no exception.
To put it differently, here the author constantly sets himself some goals, which unambiguously increases the level of his self-realization, both in personal creative research and in the open media space. What and assumes the genre of Author's Song, in which the first step, as a rule, is the author-performer with an inexpensive guitar in his hands, and the highest - to lead his own creative team or commercial-creative enterprise.
The initial presence of some practical purpose, is almost the main characteristic feature of such a concept as the genre Author's Song.
With these goals, any creative achievements (except for unambiguously unsuccessful ones) automatically become professionally and publicly realized and equally in demand. This is where we get the following sections of the genre: urban song, urban romance, chanson and further vocal-instrumental variety in all its multiple hypostases.
And all this, which is already obvious, we generalize by such a concept as the genre of Author's Song. For, it is the author's song that is the primary source for this type of creative activity.
While in my personal chest of drawers for decades now.
Several dozens of ancient audiocassettes with recordings of songs composed by me, which are also composed by the author, but which to the least extent (or even not at all) are associated with the above-mentioned features that are characteristic of songs from the genre of the Author's Song.
And here's why.
- These songs were composed by me without any initial purpose, as if by myself, not even in the context of some experiment, but only on the level of a fleeting experience, as they say, on occasion and without.
- At the same time, these songs turned out to be very complete, both from the aesthetic and constructive points of view.
- But, and then, for various reasons, they ended up in the drawer. For example, we do not throw away a new suit just because at a closer look at it at home, it turned out to be not so great as it appeared in the store. As a rule, we return such a suit to the seller or give it to our close friends, acquaintances or even strangers. While a full-fledged song (unlike the failed ones), which for some reason remained unclaimed after composing, is not a store costume, but a personal intellectual property, that's why it is put into the author's Komodo.
Yes, not just as it is, but in the best case - on demand.
So it is with my dresser songs, which for the most part.
were written in passing - by myself. As it was during my conscription in the army (draft 1985, Sosva settlement, 6606), being called up from the Ural Conservatory from the first year of the Composition Department. After that, already in the fall of 1986, the military barracks did not dispose me to composing symphonies at all, but to composing songs - quite well.
Let and nights in studio of military club, literally, having collapsed on overcoats - in hands a guitar of Vadik Nem (that from draft a year later), yes under the faint moonlight through a window I scribbled a song text with a pencil on a sheet of paper. After that, without rehearsals, as it is, on a pair with Shafirov Valery (with me of the same draft) on the same day went to the assembly hall and on a reel-to-reel tape recorder, which was given to me for an hour by the head of the club Captain Koval, yes under the sovdepovskiy plastic microphone, through which orated kombrig Mikola Kovalchuk at the army public events, we with a move (under a sheet of text) recorded the songs that I had just composed. Literally, everything as it is and by itself - one verse with a refrain - me, another verse with a refrain - Shafirov, or he sang something to me in the second voice. And even then some of these songs seemed to me: too difficult to listen to - tricky in harmony, meter and rhythm; others were too silly and even a bit vulgar, as it happens when you are young; or definitely rock'n'roll in terms of presentation, where you can't do without teamwork, you know, without heavy drums-bass and solo guitars; or even seemed banal in comparison with the ones that at that time were already in demand publicly, including on Sosva dance floors, where we occasionally played VIA, so to speak, as part of cultural exchange with local natives.
- So on and on, I composed such songs as if by themselves, recorded them on a tape recorder so as not to forget what was in them and how. After that - into a chest of drawers, not assuming any further realization of them. At the same time realizing that these songs are quite self-sufficient, both from the aesthetic-creative, form-forming and performing points of view.
- Where the only drawback is the quality of recording and rare mistakes in the lyrics, melody and in the singing presentation. Which is not surprising, when from scratch, from scratch - without rehearsals, as it is - by itself, by itself.
- And so, from time to time, looking in my dresser drawer, I thought: “These songs are good, and they're sitting on audio cassettes in a drawer for nothing! They obviously deserve a completely different fate, and they were not in demand only due to some circumstances. Here is the question, how to make it so that without a new dressing - without overplaying and over-singing, which requires not only time, strength, but also those young years that with youthful zadora, manage to give a second breath, and even a new life to these songs, obviously undeservedly turned out to be in complete oblivion?”.
So, philosophically looking at my dresser, I suddenly realized that these songs should be taken out of the dresser first of all. And then to tell people what really happened and continues to happen with these deposits. And show them - everything as it is. Which will be further perceived without special claims to the quality of sound and performance. Or even it will cause genuine sincere benevolent interest to what is going on in the author's laboratory, and what is shoved by him for many decades away from people's eyes in his author's drawers.
Actually, so I created on May 9, 2025 a new genre, at least in the sphere of author's variety performance, which was naturally immediately named Genre from Commode. And what else should it be, if it really originated in my personal home commode.
Which will be a support for a second breath not only for my songs - that in itself, but also for any creative author's achievements, which by virtue of some circumstances were undeservedly forgotten, unclaimed.
And so.
Commode Genre presupposes:
1. an initial lack of purpose in the practical realization of the public nature of some Author's Intellectual Property.
2. The staleness of such Author Intellectual Property (AIP) being created as if by itself, acquiring the characteristics of the end result - that by itself.
3. In form and content, this AIP should be a full-fledged qualitative author's product made at a high aesthetic and constructive level.
4. In this case, the initial realization of the author of this AIP, as an intellectual material product, is carried out immediately after its creation - is carried out by any improvised means, everything as it is. That naturally cannot guarantee the final technically qualitative result.
Which is the norm for the Commode Genre.
5. Further, due to some natural or accidental circumstances, this AIP turns out to be unclaimed and even forgotten, to know, turns out to be abandoned by the author in his home dresser.
6. But, if one day the author takes it out of the chest of drawers for publication, it happens without any significant rework of the original version of this AIP. Everything here must remain as it is, for it was once created by itself, becoming a completed product - that in itself.
Therefore, the pricelessness of this product of creative activity lies in the fact that we can see it in its pure and pristine form, as if it were the only source of its kind.
Which is the norm for the Commode Genre.
