Crochet vest in Russian style. How to make

The multi-season top vest is crocheted from openwork square elements. I'll tell you how and from what I did it.

Idea

I started with a moodboard:

The moodboard set helped me to determine the color of the product (this is white and red) and its style and design (like a Russian folk sundress with wide straps made of rectangular openwork elements).

Element pattern

I was looking for a suitable pattern on the Yandex service:

The original pattern did not fit for my size M / L, because 8 elements were not enough, and 9 were a lot, so I had to correct the 1st row. I also tweaked the last row of the element (corner joints) to make the vest more flexible and pliable. As a result, I drew the following crochet pattern:

What the vest is made of

I used hook No. 3.

Yarn for elements - Hawai from the Seam brand, 100% mercerized cotton, 50g in a skein, 120 meters, color No. 1203. For a vest, you need 6 balls.

Yarn for finishing the edge of the vest - Semenovskaya Softness, 47% cotton, 53% viscose, in a ball 100g, 400 meters, color No. 30171, two threads.

To decorate the vest I used unpainted wooden beads (diameter 6mm, hole 2mm) - 113 pieces, beads made of pressed coral chips (diameter 10mm, hole 1mm) - 5 pieces.

In total, 35 elements need to be made for the vest: 8 for the straps (4 for each) and 27 for the "body" (9 motifs in 3 rows). In the finished form, the side of the element turned out to be 95mm, and about 1.5mm on each side "goes" into the connecting seams. At first I tried to crochet the elements to make it easier to assemble, but it turned out roughly, so I had to sew the canvas.

The finished fabric is tied with single crochet columns in one row and embroidered along the edge with wooden beads. I used the red beads to simulate the clasp.

This vest can be worn over a T-shirt or top in summer, over a long sleeve in spring and autumn, over a thin sweater in winter.

Here's the result:
