The Japanese aircraft carrier “Chiyoda” in the sea.
Chiyoda entered service in 1938. After the loss of four aircraft carriers in the Battle of Midway in June 1942, Chiyoda, along with the same-named Chitose, was decided to be rebuilt into light aircraft carriers.
“Chiyoda” came into operation after re-equipment on October 31, 1943. June 20, 1944, received a direct hit by one bomb. Repair lasted until September 1944. During the battle at Cape Engango on October 25, 1944, the aircraft carrier was seriously damaged by US carrier-based aircraft and lost the ability to move. In the evening of the same day, it was sunk by artillery fire of American heavy cruisers “Wichita” and “New Orleans”.
