In our modern world pupil’s success at school is determined by academic performance. Some people believe annual knowledge assessment via exams to be necessary while others think differently.
In my opinion, schoolchildren are bound to take exams yearly. Firstly, it helps teachers to access the knowledge of pupils rightfully and unbiasedly thanks to committee of assessors giving the mark rather than one teacher. Secondly, sitting the exams every year favors development of student’s skill to overcome stress.
However, some people argue this, saying that examination does not have to be held every year. To begin with, there is no point in year-end examination as students can be evaluated by current school grades in the register. Moreover, most learners work hard preparing for exams and wasting time on revision of the material they had already learned before instead of learning the subject they do need in their future.
Despite my respect to this opinion, I cannot share it. Current school grades do not always reflect objective knowledge of pupils because it is determined by many factors including a skill to answer in front of the class. If a pupil takes the exam annually, he has the chance to overcome his complexes answering in public as there are no classmates mocking at him (or her) like in a classroom and, consequently, get a higher mark. Besides, brushing up the material, students go into detail of the units they failed to understand throughout the terms. So, yearly exam is hardly a sheer waste of time.
All in all, the arguments I have presented speak for themselves and I suppose schoolchildren should take exams yearly.
