How not to look like a tourist?

Buy (or search the Internet) a map and explore the area surrounding the hotel before you land in a foreign country. This will not replace real knowledge of the surroundings, but even with such minimal training you will get used to the place faster. And maybe even realize that the taxi driver for the second hour carries you around the airport.

Even if the road is unfamiliar, do not stand at every intersection with a detailed map and compass. Turn around any corner with a bored look of a man who walks on this route for ten years. In acute need to look at the map, go to the cafe and study it there slowly.

Leave a Hawaiian shirt or a t-shirt that says "First time in Rome", bought at the gift shop, at the hotel. Choose international jeans and a non-screaming shirt. Try not to carry large bags with gifts to friends. Take the camera off your neck and put it in your pocket.

Don't go with the crowd, and one. You may look like a native Parisian, but if you're surrounded by a bunch of tribesmen, you're easily identified. It is even better to go on a trip to the so-called low season, when there are few tourists. However, all these tips are unlikely to help you if you are Japanese.
